2 Killed and 2 Hospitalized after Traffic Collision at Trancas Canyon Road
MALIBU, CA (August 3, 2018) – Two people were killed early Friday afternoon and two others were hospitalized, following a head-on crash at Trancas Canyon Road.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Malibu-Lost Hills Station, the collision happened shortly after noon. A gray Mercury minivan was heading west on the Pacific Coast Highway at a high rate of speed when it attempted to pass another vehicle. The driver lost control of the minivan, crossed over the center divider, and collided head-on with a red Dodge Ram truck.
Paramedics arrived at the scene to render aid to the injured victims. Unfortunately, two motorists – 60-year-old Rick Artes of La Habra and 48-year-old Mike Hollinrake – were pronounced dead by responding emergency crews. A passenger inside the pickup truck was airlifted to a hospital, while a bicyclist was also hospitalized with minor injuries.
