52-Year-Old Richard Reed Dies After Car Accident at Florissant’s Rice House

Florissant, MO (August 29, 2024) – 52-year-old Richard Reed died after a car crashed into a Florissant’s Rice House. 

A customer at Florissant’s Rice House died Monday afternoon after a car crashed into the restaurant, according to the Florissant Police Department. 

The incident occurred at 11:47 a.m., though the cause remains unknown. 

The victim, 52-year-old Richard Reed, was a regular customer who was sitting near the window waiting for his family when the accident happened. 

Reed’s daughter, Shawna Reed, expressed her heartbreak, saying he was “taken way too soon” and was deeply loved by his two children and four grandchildren.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud crash and saw a black BMW SUV inside the restaurant. Richard Reed was found pinned beneath the vehicle and was rushed to the hospital, where he later died. 

The driver and passenger of the SUV were unharmed, and the driver claimed the car “took off on its own” despite being in park. The restaurant’s owner, Kenny Truong, expressed shock and concern for the safety of both customers and staff. 

The incident has left the restaurant temporarily closed, with many employees out of work until repairs are completed.

The driver is cooperating with the investigation, and the Florissant Police Department continues to investigate the crash.
