Richard McCormick Hurt and His Dog Died after Pedestrian Crash on Las Lomas Road in Santa Rosa
Santa Rosa, CA (June 02, 2020) – On Monday morning, a 40-year-old man, identified as Richard McCormick sustained injuries while his dog died in a pedestrian crash on Las Lomas Road. Police arrested the 30-year-old suspect Juan Meza on Wednesday.
According to reports, McCormick was walking his terrier when a white Maserati was speeding up the road. As the vehicle passed, the man shouted at the driver to slow down.
However, the Maserati driver allegedly put his car in reverse, accelerated and intentionally hit McCormick and his dog. The driver then fled the scene.
Consequently, the dog died on the scene while McCormick transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
Meanwhile, the Sheriff’s Office put out a call to the public on social media seeking information on the incident described the white Maserati car might sustain rear-end damage when it ran a wooden post in front of a home on Las Lomas.
After receiving an anonymous tip, detectives on June 3 found the Maserati in a driveway on Elmwood Terrace in Santa Rosa. Later that afternoon, detectives located Meza at a residence on Butterfly Lane in Santa Rosa.
At this time, Maza is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon and cruelty to an animal. He was taken to Sonoma County Jail and remained in custody on a no-bail hold.
