Nissan Driver Ricardo Joso Castro Killed in Highway 99 Collision [Sutter County, CA]

Sutter County, CA (October 1, 2024) – Ricardo Joso Castro, 48, and Juan Diego Soto Castro, 43, both Yuba City residents, were killed in a State Route 113 collision Saturday morning.

It was about 11:40 a.m. when the collision happened north of State Route 113.

Investigating officers said, Shane Loudermilk, 20, of Gridley, was driving a southbound 2015 Dodge Challenger and crossed over into the northbound lanes.

As a result, the Loudermilk, who was not wearing a seatbelt, crashed head-on into a 2010 Nissan Sentra being driven by Ricardo Joso Castro with Juan Diego Soto Castro as a passenger.

Shane Loudermilk, Ricardo Joso Castro, and Juan Diego Soto Castro were all killed at the scene.

Multiple passengers were in the Dodge during the collision including a 21-year-old woman, two 18-year-old men, and a 16-year-old boy. One passenger declined medical help while the rest were taken to Adventist Health + Rideout Hospital for minor and major injuries—one of the patients required to be transferred to UC Davis Medical Center for specialty treatment.

Meanwhile, CHP officers closed the northbound Highway 99 for about three hours while they investigated and cleared the scene. Police suspect drugs or alcohol may have played a role in the crash.
