Male Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver near Elkhorn Road
WATSONVILLE, CA (June 15, 2019) – Authorities arrested 26-year-old Ricardo Javier Manzo of Moss Landing following a fatal pedestrian crash near Elkhorn Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 10:20 PM. Due to unknown circumstances, a southbound 2004 Honda Accord struck a pedestrian walking along Salinas Road.
Unfortunately, the pedestrian died at the scene. Authorities withheld his identity, pending family notification. Meanwhile, the Honda driver did not stop to render aid and immediately fled the area.
Evidence collected at the accident scene led investigators to a home in Moss Landing. There, CHP officers arrested Manzo on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony hit-and-run and felony DUI. He was booked into the Monterey County Jail.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the events that led to the fatal crash. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
