Lumber Yard Employee Dies after Pile of Wood Falls on Him near Bristol Street in Costa Mesa
COSTA MESA, CA (December 20, 2019) – An employee at a lumber yard died Friday evening after a pile of wood shifted and fell on top of him.
Firefighters responded to Ganahl Lumber in the 1100 block of Bristol Street about 9:30 p.m. for a confined space rescue.
Upon arrival, they found the victim trapped against a forklift under a heavy pile of high-stored lumber that shifted and topped over. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Coroner’s officials identified the victim as 28-year-old Ricardo Castorena of Santa Ana.
The incident appeared to be accidental, but the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is conducting an investigation.
