Two People Fatally Injured in Four-Vehicle Collision near Whipple Road
HAYWARD, CA (October 30, 2018) – A tour bus was involved in a fatal multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 880, late Tuesday evening. The victims have been identified by the Alameda County coroner’s office as 57-year-old Renee Rodriguez of Hayward and 46-year-old La-Moomba Richard of San Lorenzo.
According to Officer Manuel Leal with the California Highway Patrol, the fatal collision took place around 10:40 PM, just south of the Whipple Road.
A 29-year-old Oakland man was driving a tour bus northbound in the middle lane on Highway 880 when he rear-ended a 1997 Lexus.
Due to the impact of the crash, the tour bus then collided with a 2011 Ford, which was then pushed into the rear of a UPS truck. Rodriguez and Richard were pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers. The driver of the UPS truck, a 61-year-old Salinas man, complained of neck pain. The tour bus driver did not sustain any injuries.
All northbound lanes in the area were shut down for about seven hours, as law enforcement officials investigated the scene. It does not appear that alcohol or drugs played a role, but officials continue to search for the cause of the accident.
No additional information has been disclosed to the public, as the investigation continues.
Heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Renee Rodriguez and La-Moomba Richard. Wishing them strength and support during this very difficult time. May they both rest in peace.
