58-Year-Old Man Killed in Crash on Highway 198 and State Route 43
HANFORD, CA (January 26, 2018) – On Friday night, a fatal motorcycle accident was reported on Highway 198 near the Highway 43 ramp, killing one and injuring another.
The man was identified on Monday by the Kings County Coroner as Rene Hernandez, 58.
According to CHP reports, Hernandez was driving westbound on the 198 and taking an exit for the 43, when he lost control of his 2016 Harley Davidson. Both he and his passenger, 44-year-old Terry Cardona of Hanford, were ejected onto the road.
Hernandez was then struck by a 2008 Honda driven by Angelica Torres of Visalia, 44. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Cardona sustained injuries and was transported to the Adventist Medical Center in Hanford. Torres was not injured in the collision.
The cause of the fatal crash is still under investigation by officials. They believe that Hernandez may have been dead before the car hit him. No charges have been filed at this time.
Condolences to the friends and family of Rene Hernandez.
