Female Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Caltrain in Redwood City
REDWOOD CITY, CA (January 11, 2019) – A woman was killed after being struck by a train Friday morning in Redwood City, authorities said.
The fatal crash happened around 5:44 a.m. on the tracks at the Whipple Avenue grade crossing.
According to reports, the woman was trespassing on the tracks when she was hit by Caltrain. The unidentified woman suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Approximately 50 passengers on the train were unharmed.
All trains were initially stopped in the area while emergency crews worked on the scene.
At 6:12 a.m., the northbound track was reopened for single tracking at restricted speeds through the area. The tracks were fully re-opened around 7:00 a.m.
The fatal crash is being investigated by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Transit Police Bureau.
