Injuries Reported in Chico Auto Accident on First Avenue and Esplanade
CHICO, CA (October 21, 2021) – Wednesday morning, a DUI crash on First Avenue and Esplanade led to the arrest of Rebecca Griffiths.
The initial accident happened at around 10:55 p.m. on First Avenue and Esplanade. According to reports, a Ford Mustang with a white racing stripe traveled recklessly on Esplanade near Panama Avenue.
Then, at around 12:50 a.m., the authorities received reports of a crash on W. First Avenue and Esplanade. Upon the officers’ arrival, they located a green Ford Mustang with a white racing stripe.
The authorities identified the Ford Mustang driver as 19-year-old Rebecca Griffiths.
Meanwhile, the investigation said that Griffiths drove south on Esplanade. Then, she failed to yield at a red light on First Avenue. After that, she crashed into a westbound vehicle on W. First Avenue.
Eventually, the Mustang struck the traffic signal control box that controls the traffic lights.
Meanwhile, the other driver suffered minor injuries and required hospitalization.
Subsequently, officers started a DUI investigation. Authorities arrested Griffiths for felony DUI due to the injuries the driver sustained.
After the crews repaired the control box, the stop signs are now available.
