John Dungan Critically Injured in Fatal Fiery Crash on Highway 154 in Santa Barbara
SANTA BARBARA, CA (October 25, 2019) – A woman and her two children were killed following a fiery crash Friday afternoon in Santa Barbara County.
The crash happened around 4:45 p.m. on Highway 154 near Cold Spring Bridge, and involved three vehicles.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 28-year-old John Roderick Dungan of Santa Barbara was driving a Chevrolet Camaro westbound. For unknown reasons, he allowed his vehicle to cross the double yellow line and slam head-on into a Chevrolet Volt, driven by 34-year-old Rebecca Vanessa Goss Bley of Solvang, with her two children in the car.
A GMC behind the Volt collided with it, and both vehicles caught fire. The Camaro came to rest on the bridge itself.
As a result, Goss Bley died at the scene along with the two children in the car’s backseat. The names of the children were pending confirmation of identification through DNA.
Meanwhile, Dungan was flown to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in critical condition.
Two occupants in the Yukon, a man and his son, were uninjured.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
