68-Year-Old Gonzales Man Fatally Injured in DUI Collision near Spence Road, Luciano Rojas Medina Arrested
SALINAS, CA (October 1, 2018) – On Monday evening, a man was killed in a wrong-way crash on Highway 101. The deceased victim was later identified as 68-year-old Raymundo Navarro of Gonzales.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place near Spence Road. As per reports, 44-year-old Luciano Rojas Medina of Salinas was driving his Chevrolet Silverado under the influence of alcohol the wrong way on the 101.
There, he crashed into multiple on-coming vehicles. The Chevy collided head-on with a Nissan Frontier, then a Honda Odyssey and a BMW. Navarro, who was driving the Nissan, suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The other two drivers in the crash suffered moderate and minor injuries.
Following the tragic crash, Rojas Medina was given a field sobriety test and arrested on suspicion of DUI. He remains in police custody at the Natividad Medical Center. Additional information will be released following the conclusion of the investigation.
