Raymond Severns Fatally Struck by Brian Perez on Highway 101 near Herrick Avenue
EUREKA, CA (August 4, 2018) – A man who was fatally injured in a pedestrian collision on Highway 101 earlier this month, has been identified as 29-year-old Raymond Severns of Eureka.
The collision occurred at around 9:25 PM on Saturday evening, near Herrick Avenue. Brian Perez of Eureka was driving southbound on the 101 at a speed of around 50 mph when Severns stepped directly in front of his vehicle from the left.
Perez attempted to break and avoid the pedestrian, but he was unsuccessful and struck him. Severns was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical officials.
According to reports, Perez was not injured in the collision and was not found to be impaired at the time of the collision. Results of a toxicology screening are pending to confirm if Severns was impaired.
