Motorcyclist Killed in Chain Reaction Crash on Highway 91 near Pioneer Boulevard
CERRITOS, CA (August 7, 2019) – Authorities identified 29-year-old Raymond Ruvalcaba of Torrance as the motorcyclist killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 91, early Wednesday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened near Pioneer Boulevard, shortly after midnight. Due to unknown reasons, a Toyota Sienna lost control and crashed into a concrete center divider.
The driver of the Toyota, identified as 21-year-old Luis Rivera Hernandez, exited the vehicle, blocking the HOV lane. Then, a Ford Expedition slammed into the disabled vehicle and sideswiped it.
A short time later, Ruvalcaba’s motorcycle crashed into the Toyota, too. The impact of the collision ejected the rider from his motorcycle, causing serious injuries.
Emergency responders rushed Ruvalcaba to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The Toyota driver suffered minor injuries, while the Ford driver did not sustain injuries from the crash. It is unknown whether or not the Toyota driver required hospitalization.
Investigators encourage witnesses to contact Officer J. Van Dragt at the CHP Santa Fe Springs area office at (562) 868-0503. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
