64-Year-Old Man Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver near North Palm Avenue
HEMET, CA (July 22, 2018) – A man was killed Sunday evening after his mobility chair was struck by a hit-and-run driver near North Palm Avenue.
As per reports, the deadly crash took place shortly after 9:00 PM in the 1200 block of West Florida Avenue. A blue Hyundai was traveling at approximately 100 mph when it hit 64-year-old Hemet resident, Ray Billings Jr.
Good Samaritans rushed to the man’s aid after seeing the violent collision. Unfortunately, Billings succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by the responding officers. Meanwhile, the driver of the blue Hyundai did not stop at the scene and was seen fleeing behind the Hemet Valley Mall.
Witnesses and mall security officers helped police search for the hit-and-run vehicle. They later spotted a man in his 20’s attempting to flag down a ride on Devonshire Avenue. The man left his Hyundai on Calle Nogales and reportedly fled on foot. The suspect was positively identified by the witnesses and was taken to the Hemet Police Department.
Officials have not yet released the man’s name or his charges. An investigation is still ongoing to determine the contributing factors in the deadly crash. No other information has been disclosed to the public at this time.
