Julian Anselmo Sosa Arrested after Crash on South Campbell Avenue in Tucson

Tucson, AZ (July 10, 2023) – Early Sunday morning, 33-year-old Raul Zepeda Gonzalez died after a crash on South Campbell Avenue and East Canada Street.

The fatal crash on South Campbell Avenue happened shortly after 2 a.m. on July 9.

Tucson Police said the collision involved a Nissan Altima and a Toyota FJ Cruiser. 

The driver of the Altima, Gonzalez, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Altima was taken to Banner University Medical Centre with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the FJ Cruiser, 22-year-old Julian Anselmo Sosa, was transported to a local hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

Tucson’s detectives determined that the FJ Cruiser was speeding south on Campbell Avenue, swerving back and forth between the median and curb lanes.

Sosa was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, three counts of aggravated assault, and felony criminal damage.

Further investigation is ongoing.
