Bicyclist Fatally Struck Head-On by DUI Driver at Grapefruit Boulevard and Ed Mitchell Drive
COACHELLA, CA (April 27, 2019) – A bicyclist was fatally struck head-on by a suspected drunk driver early Saturday morning in Coachella.
Around 2:15 am, Coachella deputies responded to an accident at Grapefruit Boulevard and Ed Mitchell Drive.
A black pickup truck, driven by a 32-year-old Hector Polanco of Coachella, was reportedly traveling southbound on Grapefruit Boulevard, when it collided head-on with a bicycle going the opposite direction.
The bicyclist, who has been identified as a 34-year-old Raul Gulliver, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Polanco was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was being held on $50,000 bail at the Indio jail, according to jail records.
