Big Rig Driver Arrested for DUI in Fatal Crash on SR 76, Randle Wayne Ommen Dead
Bonsall, CA (December 17, 2020) – A DUI suspected crash on State Route 76 by River Road left bicyclist Randle Ommen, 58, dead.
According to California Highway Patrol officer Mark Latulippe, the fatal accident took place on December 15 at about 10:15 a.m. on the highway, west of North River Road.
The bicyclist, Randle Ommen of Oceanside, was riding a KHS road bike in an eastbound bicycle lane.
Suddenly, an eastbound Freightliner big rig towing a box trailer rear-ended him.
Due to the impact of the crash, the victim flew onto the roadway, and later died on the scene.
Moreover, Latulippe reported that the truck continued driving. When the driver found a safe location to turn, he returned.
Ultimately, police arrested the 57-year-old trucker of Santa Fe Springs in Los Angeles County. He was charged of suspicion of driving under the influence of a drug; however, investigators did not specify what drug it was.
Furthermore, the investigation led to the closure of one lane on eastbound State Route 76 until 2 p.m.
