Randall Chunn Killed in Pedestrian Crash on 80 Freeway [Vallejo, CA]

21-Year-Old Good Samaritan from Palmdale Fatally Struck by Vehicle near American Canyon Road

 
VALLEJO, CA (October 7, 2018) – A man was killed in a pedestrian crash on the 80 Freeway, early Sunday morning. The deceased victim was later identified as 21-year-old Randall Chunn of Palmdale.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place at approximately 2:00 AM at the American Canyon Road exit near the Hunter Hill rest area. As per reports, Chunn was helping 28-year-old Gustavo Valles Garcia, who had gotten into an accident in the area.
 
Garcia was driving his 2012 Toyota Tacoma when it struck a metal guardrail in the gore point of the rest area’s off-ramp. The truck spun out to the left before traveling back onto the 80 Freeway and coming to a stop and facing south in the No. 2 and 3 lanes.
 
Chunn, who was sleeping in his car, woke up from the sound of the accident and walked to the truck to help Garcia. At the same time, 62-year-old Greg Allan Tormey of Vacaville was driving westbound in the No. 2 lane in a 2009 GMC Sierra, at speed of about 70 to 80 mph. The GMC did not stop in time and struck Garcia’s Toyota, causing it to hit Chunn. He sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency responders.
 
Garcia suffered minor injuries in the collision, while Tormey was unharmed.
 
The westbound 80 Freeway lanes were shut down for nearly three hours while cleanup and investigation took place in the area. No other information has been released to the public, as the authorities continue to investigate.
