Fatal Car Accident on Old Highway 395 in Rainbow
RAINBOW, CA (April 6, 2018) – A woman was killed following a rollover car accident Saturday afternoon in Rainbow, authorities said.
The fatal crash happened around 3:47 p.m. at Old Highway 395 and Rainbow Glen Road, a little more than a mile South of the Rainbow Valley Boulevard exit.
According to reports, a white Chevrolet Aveo was traveling northbound on 15 Freeway when for unknown reasons, it veered off the right shoulder. It then overturned down a 25-feet embankment, struck a tree and landed upside down on the shoulder of Old Highway 395, parallel to the freeway, just South of Rainbow Glen Road.
The driver of the car, a 73-year-old Menifee woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Her name has not yet been released pending next of kin notification.
Witnesses told CHP dispatchers the victim may have been using the shoulder to pass a slower semi truck when the crash happened.
Authorities did not rule out drugs and alcohol as factors in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
