Rafael Caballero Dies in Five-Vehicle Crash on East Helen Marie Drive in Nogales Highway 

Tucson, AZ (September 20, 2021) – On Sunday, a 60-year-old Rafael Caballero died in a five-vehicle crash near East Helen Marie Drive on Nogales Highway.

Subsequently, police arrested the 54-year-old Edward Trejo, and currently faces charges including manslaughter, leaving the scene of a fatal collision, endangerment, criminal damage, and driving under the influence.

The fatal five-vehicle crash happened at about 12:45 a.m. on September 19. 

According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, Trejo was driving a flatbed truck that crossed the center line near East Helen Marie Drive and side-swiped a Dodge Ramp pickup truck heading northbound.

Moreover, the flatbed then hit a northbound Ford F-150. The Honda Civic and Ford sedan hit debris from the wreck right after it happened.

As a result, Caballero, driving the Ford F-150 died at the scene. 

Police said no one else involved was hurt. Trejo left the scene but later returned.
