58-Year-Old Lancaster Bicyclist Dead after Struck by Vehicle near Standridge Avenue
LANCASTER, CA (August 25, 2018) – A man was killed Saturday morning in a bicycle crash on Avenue K. The victim was later identified by the authorities as 58-year-old Rafael Angel Reyes of Lancaster.
A report from the California Highway Patrol stated that the collision happened at approximately 6:00 AM, just east of Standridge Avenue.
According to Detective Matthew Davis from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Lancaster station, Reyes was heading westbound on his bicycle in the designated bike lane on Avenue K. For unknown reasons, a passing motorist swerved to the right, crossed into the lane, and rear-ended him.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and transported Reyes to a local hospital in critical condition. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
It is unclear at this time if the motorist was cited or arrested. His identity was not released by officials. Lancaster Sheriff’s Traffic investigators are asking witnesses or anyone with additional information regarding the crash to contact them by calling (661) 948-8466.
