3 Dead in Copperopolis 2-Vehicle Accident on Highway 4

COPPEROPOLIS, CA (August 15, 2023) – Friday night, Quang Tran sustained injuries in a fatal head-on crash on Highway 4.

The incident involving two vehicles happened at about 7:00 p.m. on Highway 4, west of Copperopolis.

According to reports, the driver of a 2020 Honda, an unidentified 25-year-old man from San Mateo, veered into the oncoming westbound traffic lane. Then, the driver collided with a 2020 Lexus head-on.

Meanwhile, the San Mateo man, and his two passengers, a 62-year-old woman, and a 25-year-old woman, both from San Francisco, were all dead in the crash.

Moreover, 37-year-old Lexus driver Tran of San Jose sustained moderate injuries. Responders took him to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.

Officers confirmed that 5 passengers rode in Tran’s vehicle, ranging in age from two to 72. The passengers sustained a mix of moderate to major injuries. Then, responders took them to Doctors Medical Center.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
