Wrong-Way Driver Causes Fatal Fiery Crash at Campo and Tecate Roads
POTRERO, CA (December 20, 2018) – At least one person was killed following a fiery crash late Thursday evening on a remote stretch of a two-lane highway near the Mexican border in southeastern San Diego County.
The fatal crash happened around 10:55 p.m. on Highway 94, also known as Campo Road, just West of Highway 188, also known as Tecate Road.
According to an initial dispatch, a vehicle was traveling the wrong way when it collided head-on with another vehicle. The impact caused one of the cars to burst into flames.
Police arrived on the scene and found at least one fatality as a result of the accident. The identity of the victim was not immediately available pending notification of next of kin.
It is unknown if drugs and/or alcohol were contributing factors of the crash. Further investigation is underway.
