2 People Injured in Santa Barbara Accident on Carillo Street
SANTA BARBARA, CA (July 9, 2020) – Saturday night, a crash involving a Santa Barbara Police officer and his K9 partner occurred on Carillo Street.
According to reports, the officer and his partner Murdock rode a police SUV when the crash happened about 7:25 p.m. The officer drove west on Carrillo Street with lights and siren blaring.
However, as he approached the intersection of De La Vina Street, a vehicle traveling down De La Vina hit the side of the police vehicle.
Due to the impact, the passenger car suffered significant damage to its front end. Meanwhile, responders transported the driver of the vehicle to Cottage Hospital with minor injuries. Reports revealed that the driver solely occupied the said vehicle.
The impact led the police SUV to spun and struck a tree until it stopped in the center median.
Firefighters freed the officer from the vehicle and took him to Cottage Hospital with moderate injuries.
Meanwhile, a former K9 officer removed Murdock from the back of the car. They took the K9 dog to VCA Care Emergency Animal Hospital. After an hour, the animal hospital released Murdock who suffered a minor cut on his hind toe.
The crash remains under active investigation.
