3 Hurt in Chula Vista Multi-Vehicle Crash on Fourth Avenue near G Street
CHULA VISTA, CA (October 23, 2020) – Wednesday afternoon, a police officer and two others suffered injuries in an accident on Fourth Avenue.
The incident occurred just after 2:20 p.m. The officer driving a police SUV headed south on Fourth Avenue, between G Street and H Street. Afterward, the police SUV crashed with a car pulling onto the street from a parking lot driveway. Then, it crashed with a third vehicle waiting at a center turn lane.
Meanwhile, Chula Vista police Sgt. David Marshall and Lt. Gino Grippo released a statement. According to them, at the time of the crash, the officer possibly responded to a call.
This particular reported happened a few blocks away from a “high-risk vehicle stop” that involves a wanted man with a felony warrant. Furthermore, Grippo confirmed that the driver was wanted on a felony warrant. Thus, other officers took the wanted man from the area.
Medical responders aided the two other drivers with minor injuries. Afterward, they released the two from the scene. However, the officer required hospitalization for further evaluation.
At this time, the department continues to investigate. They’re aiming to determine whether the officer was actually responding to that report. They also wanted to know whether the officer activated his lights and siren or not.
