3 Injured in High-Speed Chase Crash near Randolph Street
HUNTINGTON PARK, CA (February 1, 2019) – Three people were injured Friday evening following a head-on crash on South Alameda Street. The identities of the victims were not immediately disclosed to the public.
According to the California Highway Patrol, authorities chased a driver wanted for an unknown traffic violation in the Compton area, at about 9:30 PM.
The suspect then pulled into a shopping center off Tweedy Boulevard after speeding through South Los Angeles. As he exited the shopping center, he encountered a CHP patrol vehicle. In an attempt to evade capture, the suspect regained speed and began running traffic lights.
A short time later, the suspect’s silver Lincoln Navigator lost control near Randolph Street. The vehicle then fishtailed and collided head-on with another vehicle on the opposite side of traffic, causing a chain-reaction crash.
A total of three victims suffered minor to moderate injuries as a result of the crash. They were all transported to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation. Further updates on their current medical conditions were not provided.
The suspect was ordered to remove items from his pockets, his vest, and his two shirts before he was taken into custody. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the collision and to identify possible contributing factors. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
