52-Year-Old Woman Injured in Suspected DUI Accident near Atascadero Drive
POINT LOMA, CA (April 1, 2018) – A 52-year-old woman was seriously injured on Nimitz Boulevard after she was thrown off a motorcycle, Sunday evening.
A 51-year-old man riding a 2017 Harley-Davidson motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve on Nimitz Boulevard near Atascadero Drive at around 6:00 PM. The motorcycle then hit a curb, went up on a sidewalk, crossed over lanes of traffic, and crashed into center divider at the 3700 block of Nimitz.
Police said that the driver continued straight as the road bent, causing the motorcycle to hit the curb. The impact of the crash caused the female passenger to be ejected from the vehicle. Investigators suspect the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
The woman suffered an open fracture in one of her legs and was taken to a hospital. She is expected to recover fully and survive. The driver was also taken to a hospital after complaining of pain.
Officers shut down Nimitz Blvd after the incident for investigation and cleanup. They continue to investigate the crash at this time.
