Fatal 3-Vehicle Wreck on West Reigo Road in Pleasant Grove
PLEASANT GROVE, CA (December 17, 2018) – Two people were killed following a three-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in Pleasant Grove, CHP officials said.
The crash happened around 4:23 p.m. on West Reigo Road at Highway 99.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2017 Hyundai Tucson drifted onto the right shoulder of Riego Road then suddenly veered back and forth into the westbound lane. It then collided head-on with a 2001 Ford F350 that was traveling westbound.
A third vehicle, a 2018 Toyota Corolla which was traveling behind the Hyundai, struck the SUV.
The driver of the Hyundai, a 47-year-old woman of Yuba City, and the driver of Toyota, a 53-year-old man of Roseville, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names were not immediately available pending next of kin notification.
The driver of the Ford F350, an 18-year-old Brycen Benedict from Oroville, sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
Both the Hyundai and the Toyota sustained major damage and ended up blocking both lanes of Riego Road.
The Ford pickup truck also sustained major damage and came to rest on the right shoulder of the westbound lanes.
Yuba Sutter CHP officials are still investigating the cause of the crash and factors involved.
