Pilot and Passenger Injured After Plane Crash at Big Bear Airport
Big Bear, CA (May 10, 2024) -Officials reported that a pilot and passenger walked away with only minor injuries in a small airplane crash at Big Bear Airport on Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. at the northwest corner of the airport at 501 Valley Blvd., as stated by the Big Bear Fire Department.
Firefighters arriving at the scene found a single-engine Cessna that had crashed upon takeoff, according to a written statement from fire officials.
“The two occupants on board had self-evacuated with minor injuries,” the statement noted. “There were no hazards to report during this incident.”
The aircraft sustained moderate damage. Photos from the scene depicted the plane resting in a dirt field, with its nose and propeller bent down at a 45-degree angle and the tip of a wing sheared off.
Federal Aviation Administration records identify the plane as a Cessna model 195B, manufactured in 1955 and registered to an owner in Newport Beach, with a valid flight status.
The airport briefly closed to air traffic during the initial response, as indicated in initial radio broadcasts from the scene.
