Injuries Reported in San Diego Plane Accident on Interstate 5 and Via De La Valle
SAN DIEGO, CA (August 25, 2021) – Tuesday afternoon, a pilot sustained injuries in a small plane crash on Interstate 5 and Via De La Valle.
A single-engine Piper PA-32 aircraft made an emergency landing at about 12:15 p.m. The incident happened on southbound Interstate 5 near Del Mar.
Thus, several emergency vehicles responded to the scene. At this time, the authorities haven’t determined why the pilot landed on the freeway. The plane landed on the far left of the southbound lanes, near the freeway’s divider.
Also, reports confirmed that fuel leaked onto the northbound side of Interstate 5. Thus, crews immediately worked on cleaning up the fuel after their arrival.
Meanwhile, witnesses spotted the pilot with injuries to his leg. Meanwhile, the FAA later revealed that two people were on board at the time of the crash.
Moreover, some aerial images at the scene revealed the plane missing half of its right-wing. Apparently, the wing landed around 500 feet away from the plane. Another debris also landed on a car that had pulled over to the shoulder.
Sarah Tribett, the owner of the car said, “It hit us and then swung around. And then, the wing got stuck in the other car.”
“So, we broke the fall because we and a couple of people behind us drove up to us after and say they literally saw it come down and it landed on our car,” Tribett added.
Moreover, the crash led to a back-up on the freeway. Also, the traffic was at a complete stop just past Via De La Valle.
At this time, the authorities haven’t identified the occupants of the plane. They said, “the agency does not identify people involved in aircraft accidents or incidents.”
