Pickup Driver Killed, Waqui Jada Hurt in Buellton Two-Car Crash
BUELLTON, CA (June 17, 2019) – A 79-year-old man died and Waqui Jada sustained injuries in a two-car crash in Buellton on Saturday, June 15.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at around 5 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Highway 101 near the Avenue of Flags off-ramp.
A Chevrolet Silverado pickup and a Kia Soul were side by side when they crashed. This caused both to roll over into the brush on the right shoulder, the CHP stated.
The Kia ended up on its side and blocked the off-ramp. The pickup came to rest on its roof on the right shoulder.
The driver of the Silverado, whose identity was not released pending notification of relatives, sustained fatal injuries.
The Kia’s driver, 23-year-old Karari J. Cherry, of San Francisco, was not hurt.
A passenger in the Kia, 24-year-old Waqui Jada, of San Francisco, suffered minor injuries. Paramedics rushed Jada by AMR ambulance to Santa Ynez Cottage Hospital.
The crash is still under investigation by the CHP.
