Federal Way Fiery Big Rig Crash Injures Driver
Federal Way, WA (July 07, 2021) – On Tuesday, a pickup truck driver was injured in Highway 18 semi-truck crash.
The accident happened at about 1:30 p.m. near the Interstate 5 interchange, which resulted in a fiery crash.
Apparently, an eastbound driver of the small Toyota pickup experienced an equipment failure. It drifted into the lane of the big rig, which is was traveling the same direction.
The semi-truck collided into the pickup before crashing into the center barrier, which was then pushed into the westbound lanes of traffic.
Rescuers took the pickup driver to a local hospital for sustaining non-fatal injuries.
Luckily, no one died in the fiery accident. Officers said both drivers were able to get out of their vehicles on their own.
Moreover, the authorities said both vehicles were fully involved during the incident and which left several items of debris scattered on the roadway.
Firefighters worked to keep the fire from spreading. Crews stretched their firehoses down the off-ramp in the opposite direction of traffic to provide enough water to the scene.
Furthermore, officers closed both directions of Highway 18 from Enchanted Parkway to Interstate 15 while they investigated the accident and clear up the scene.
The fire was contained as of 2:30 p.m.
Lastly, the authorities reopened the westbound lanes of the freeway at around 3:45 p.m. and the eastbound lanes reopened shortly before 4 p.m.
Meanwhile, officers are still investigating the incident.
Since you cannot read the intention of the driver in front of you, don’t tailgate. Make it your practice to always maintain some distance between your vehicle and the one ahead in order to give yourself enough response time should the vehicle ahead make a sudden turn or stop.
