1 Arrest in Fatal Napa County DUI Accident on SR 29 and Larkmead Lane

 
NAPA COUNTY, CA (March 17, 2021) – Monday, authorities arrested Philip Popick after a fatal crash on SR 29 and Larkmead Lane.
 
The incident occurred when 30-year-old Philip Popick of Calistoga drove a 2015 Subaru south on SR 29, south of Larkmead Lane. At 10:12 a.m., Popick drove into the opposite northbound lane and crashed head-on with a 1997 Infiniti.
 
As a result, the 64-year-old Santa Rosa male driver of the Infiniti sustained fatal injuries. Authorities declared him dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld due to pending family notification.
 
Meanwhile, a 62-year-old female passenger in the Infiniti sustained major injuries. Thus, a CHP helicopter crew flew her to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
 
Also, Popick sustained major injuries and an ambulance took him to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa. Later, authorities placed him under arrest on suspicion of felony DUI-drugs, causing injuries, CHP Office Marc Renspurger revealed.
 
Renspurger added that all involved parties wore seat belts during the crash.
 
The incident led to the closure of SR 29 in both directions. The authorities also issued a SigAlert and diverted traffic onto Silverado Trail from Bale and Larmead lanes for two hours. At about 1:30 p.m., authorities lifted the SigAlert.
