Person Killed in Collision on State Route 78 [Oceanside, CA]

Oceanside, CA (March 4, 2024) A person was injured and another was killed following a vehicle collision on State Route 78 Sunday afternoon.

This traffic accident happened past 4:15 p.m. on the eastbound lanes of the freeway near El Camino Real wherein a small car crashed into the large excavator parked near the shoulder. The driver and the passenger were trapped inside the vehicle.

The rescuers were able to extract the driver from the vehicle and airlifted them to a nearby trauma center.

Moreover, it took 30 minutes for the emergency crew to free the passenger. The firefighters used special equipment and advanced techniques in extricating the passenger. The medical team took them to nearby trauma center but they went into traumatic cardiac arrest while in the ambulance. Officers said that as of 7 p.m. Sunday, the passenger was in critical, but stable condition.

Meanwhile there is no information if it was the passenger or the driver who died in this collision. 

CHP is investigating the cause of the collision.
