Person Dies in Suspected Hit-and-Run Crash on State Route 299 [Humboldt, CA]

Humboldt, CA (December 23, 2022) – On December 21, an adult man lost his life in a suspected hit-and-run crash on State Route 299.

The authorities received the report at about 11:53 a.m. on the south shoulder of the eastbound freeway, west of SR-200.

Responding officers located the victim with fatal injuries. 

Preliminarily investigation suggests that during the late night hours of the 20th, and the early morning hours of the 21st, the victim was walking on the south shoulder of eastbound SR-299 when an unknown vehicle struck him.

Moreover, the pieces of evidence collected are consistent with the suspect vehicle as a big rig that may sustain minor to moderate damage to the front right side of the cab and missing mirrors.

Meanwhile, an autopsy will be conducted to assist in determining the cause and time of death. Officers withheld the deceased’s identity pending notification of kin.
