1 Killed in San Diego Fiery Crash on 5 Freeway Involving Big Rig
SAN DIEGO, CA (October 15, 2019) — A person died in a fiery crash on 5 Freeway near Camp Pendleton Monday morning.
The collision involved a big rig and a small sedan according to the California Highway Patrol. It occurred at about 5:05 a.m. on southbound 5 Freeway south of the Aliso Creek rest area.
The big rig pinned the sedan against the center divider. The car subsequently caught fire and engulfed in flames after the crash.
One person trapped in the car died at the scene. However, the officials did not release the identity of the victim. Information about the semi-truck driver was also not immediately available.
The crash forced the closure of southbound 5 Freeway at around 5:15 a.m. Two right lanes reopened 20 minutes later.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause and circumstances that led to the crash.
