Person Dies in 5th Street Hit-and-Run Collision [Eureka, CA]

A Deadly Traffic Crash on K Street

Eureka, CA (March 5, 2023) – At about 7 a.m. yesterday, a person sustained fatal injuries in a 5th Street hit-and-run collision.

The Eureka Police Department’s Communication Center received a report of an injured person lying in the roadway near K Street. The reporting party said there were no vehicles in the area.  

When the Eureka Police Officers along with Humboldt Bay Fire and City Ambulance arrived at the scene, they located vehicle debris in the roadway. They confirmed that a vehicle versus pedestrian collision took place and said there were no involved vehicles on the scene.

Immediately, the paramedics took the victim to St. Joseph Hospital by City Ambulance. The patient incurred major injuries and died at the hospital.

According to the investigating officers, the victim was walking south across 5th Street, in the crosswalk, and was hit by the suspect vehicle that immediately fled eastbound on 5th Street.

Officers said the suspect vehicle was a mid-size white Lincoln MKX with a probable model year of 2011-2015.  It has a sun or moon roof that makes the vehicle’s roof appear black and has driver’s side front end damage.
