65-Year-Old Man Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on Highway 74 in Perris
PERRIS, CA (March 19, 2019) – A man was killed in a pedestrian hit-and-run crash Tuesday evening in a rural Southwest Riverside County road.
The fatal crash happened around 8:13 p.m. on Highway 74 at Greenwald Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a male pedestrian tried to cross from the northbound right shoulder to the center median when he was struck in the westbound lane by an unknown vehicle.
After the crash, the vehicle fled the scene without rendering aid to the victim.
Arriving CHP officers detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from the victim.
The 65-year-old man, who has not yet been publicly identified, was rushed to Inland Valley Medical Medical Center, where he died about an hour later. He was reportedly wearing dark clothing in an area with no street lights, authorities said.
The Temecula Area CHP is still investigating the incident and urging witnesses to call (951) 506-2000.
