Morning Head-On Collision on Cajalco Road in Perris Kills Four

PERRIS, CA (March 16, 2019) – Four people were killed following a fiery head-on collision Saturday morning in Perris, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The collision occurred at about 5:10 a.m. at the intersection of Cajalco Road and Gavilan Road.

According to reports, a 2001 GMC Sierra was heading westbound on Cajalco Road, just East of Gavilan Road when it collided head-on with a 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche that was traveling eastbound on Cajalco Road.

The impact caused the Chevrolet to burst into flames, while the GMC was smoking nearby.

CHP, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire, AMR, and other emergency personnel responded to the scene and found the two vehicles blocking both directions of Cajalco Road. Both vehicles sustained major front-end damage, and vehicle parts and debris were spread across Cajalco Road, leaving the road impassable.

The GMC driver, a 56-year-old Perris man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a 52-year-old woman, also from Perris, was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Two men in Chevrolet were also killed in the crash.

The identities of all four people were withheld pending notification of family.

This fatal incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information should contact the Riverside, California Highway Patrol, Accident Investigation unit, at (951) 637-8000.
