Lost Hills, CA (September 21, 2023) – On September 20, people were injured following a fiery collision on Highway 46 east of Kecks Road.

The traffic accident happened at around 8:15 a.m. east of Kecks Road.

Investigating officers said a 52-year-old man was driving a Peterbilt, towing a low-boy trailer westbound on the #2 lane of the freeway. The Peterbilt was slowing for traffic approaching a semi-truck on fire.

At the same time, a Ford Econoline driven by a 68-year-old man was behind the Peterbilt. The Ford driver did not slow for the Peterbilt and was unable to avoid rear-ending it.

The Ford turned onto its side and slid into a Kern County Fire truck that was parked on the right shoulder.

As a result, the Ford driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital while its 48-year-old female passenger sustained major injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital.

Moreover, respond firefighters located the semi-truck driver who was not injured. Afterward, the firefighters extinguished the spreading fire.

Minutes later, a passenger van with two people drove past the traffic cones and flashing emergency lights and struck the semi-truck. The van then careened into a parked KCFD fire engine on the side of the freeway.

Firefighters extricated the two people riding the van which turned onto its side.

A KCFD fire paramedic was used for advanced medical care (ALS) on one of the van passengers sustained life-threatening injuries.

In the meantime, the authorities are investigating the cause of the semi-truck being on fire.
