70-Year-Old Woman Struck by Vehicle in North Berkeley
Berkley, CA (August 20, 2022) – On August 13, Penelope Fetsch, a 70-year-old El Cerrito chiropractor, sustained injuries in a Colusa Avenue accident.
Officers investigating the case say that Fetsch was walking on Colusa Avenue at about 7:15 P.M. Suddenly, a westbound driver on Solano Avenue hit her while turning onto Colusa Avenue.
Fetsch’s partner, Mark Olivier, says she was picking up food from a nearby taqueria when the accident happened.
As a result, Fetsch incurred broken ribs, pelvis injuries, multiple cuts, and abrasions. The emergency responders rushed her to Highland Hospital where stayed for four days in the ICU.
Fetsch’s partner, Mark Olivier, says she was picking up food from a nearby taqueria when the accident happened.
“She was in the crosswalk looking both ways,” Olivier said Fetsch told her. “Next thing she knew, she woke up in the hospital.”
Olivier added that Penelope Fetsch spent 16 hours in the emergency room.
Moreover, the driver involved in the accident remained at the scene.
The authorities are investigating the case. They said they do not suspect drugs and alcohol as factors in the accident.
When driving, it is important to follow all driving laws and the conditions of the road. If you see any vehicle or driver that looks dangerous, keep your distance. If you see a vehicle weaving in and out of the lanes, following too closely, move over a few lanes and get out of their way.
Drive defensively to ensure the safety of surrounding vehicles, drivers, and pedestrians.
