Man Killed after Struck by Amtrak Train in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (March 21, 2019) – On Thursday night, a pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak train on Washington Street.
The victim was identified as a male. However, no other information regarding his identification has been released awaiting for next of kin.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the accident occurred around 10:35 PM near Hancock Street.
The train was going 46 miles per hour when the victim was walking on the railroad tracks. Soon after, the victim walked its path at the time of the accident.
The cause of the accident is currently unknown. In addition, no details on what happened prior to the pedestrian being struck were immediately available.
First responders declared the pedestrian dead on scene. Passengers were on board at the time of the collision, however no other injuries were reported.
The surrounding area was closed off for a brief time for preliminary investigation, but has since reopened. The Amtrak schedule returned to normal service with some residual delays.
There has been no further information released to the public regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident at this time.
