Pedestrian Dead in Santa Ana Train Crash
SANTA ANA, CA (February 10, 2019) – A pedestrian died after being hit by an Amtrak train in Santa Ana on Wednesday night, February 6.
According to authorities, the Amtrak Train A591 struck the victim around 9:05 p.m. near the 1100 block of Walnut Street. The accident occurred just south of East First Street, between the Santa Ana and Fullerton stations.
Capt. Larry Kurtz of the Orange County Fire Authority stated that the unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The pedestrian accident temporarily stopped Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner traffic. Two Metrolink trains — Train 644 operating from Fullerton to Oceanside and Train 645 operating from Laguna Niguel to Fullerton — were also canceled on the Metrolink’s Orange County Line, according to a Metrolink spokesman.
The spokesman said that passengers on those trains were provided accommodation on Orange County Transportation Authority buses as well as Uber and Lyft ride-hailing services.
Our deepest thoughts and sympathies go out to the bereaved family and friends of the victim.
