Man Dies after Train Collision near North Bear Creek Drive
MERCED, CA (September 22, 2019) – A pedestrian died in a train collision near North Bear Creek Drive, late Sunday morning.
According to the Merced Police Department, the incident happened at about 11:02 AM. Due to unknown reasons, a pedestrian was on the tracks when an Amtrak train began slowing down to enter the station. The victim failed to get off the tracks and was hit by the train.
Unfortunately, the victim, described as a man in his 30s or 40s, died at the scene. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, the train passengers did not sustain injuries.
The Merced police continue to investigate the cause of the fatal accident. Investigators will release additional information once it becomes available.
