1 Killed after Train Collision near Las Positas Overpass in Santa Barbara
SANTA BARBARA, CA (October 22, 2019) – A pedestrian died in a train collision near Las Positas Overpass, Tuesday evening.
According to the Santa Barbara City Fire Department, the incident happened near West Junipero Street footbridge, which crosses Highway 101 and the Union Pacific railroad tracks. At about 10:15 PM, a northbound Amtrak train blew its whistle and slammed on the brakes.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and found the victim’s body near the back of the train. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
Officers continue to investigate the cause of the fatal incident. Investigators will release additional information once it becomes available.
