1 Dead after Hit-and-Run Crash on Highway 96 near Downs Ranch Road
ORLEANS, CA (September 13, 2019) – A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Highway 96, Friday evening. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 7:52 PM. Due to unknown reasons, a pedestrian was walking in the middle of the roadway. There, a black Toyota pickup hit the victim near Downs Ranch Road.
Unfortunately, the pedestrian died at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup truck did not stop to render aid and immediately fled the area.
The CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal crash. Anyone with information can call the CHP Humboldt Area Office at (707) 268-2000. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
