Driver Wanted after Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash at 1st Avenue and Kelso Street
TUCSON, AZ (August 17, 2019) – Authorities continue to search for the driver responsible in a fatal hit-and-run crash on 1st Avenue, early Saturday morning.
According to the Tucson Police Department, the incident happened shortly after midnight. A pedestrian attempted to cross 1st avenue outside of a marked crosswalk when a gray 2016 Mazda hit her. The driver stopped to render aid to the injured pedestrian.
A short time later, a second southbound vehicle struck the pedestrian, causing more serious injuries. However, the driver of the second vehicle immediately fled the area.
Upon arrival, officers found the pedestrian unresponsive in the roadway. Despite life-saving efforts, the woman died at the scene. Authorities withheld her identity, pending notification of next of kin.
Investigators confirmed that the first driver did not show signs of impairment. Meanwhile, they continue to search for the driver of the vehicle that fled. Anyone with information about this collision can call 88-CRIME and remain anonymous.
