Deadly Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Crash on University Avenue in Berkeley
BERKELEY, CA (January 20, 2020) – A pedestrian died in a hit-and-run crash on Sixth Street Monday morning, in Berkeley.
A UC Berkeley officer was driving on Sixth Street when he saw a gray Nissan four-door sedan parked along the curb around 10:30 a.m. He then heard a woman inside the vehicle screaming for help.
As the officer approached, the driver of that vehicle sped away and made multiple U-turns along Sixth Street in attempt to lose the officer.
The suspect then made a wide left turn onto University Avenue. There, he veered onto the sidewalk and struck a female pedestrian. She suffered fatal injuries and was later pronounced dead on scene.
Moreover, officers closed Fifth and Sixth streets for a brief time as they investigated the incident.
The car was last seen fleeing onto 80 Freeway and remained at large Monday afternoon. Anyone with information was asked to call police at 510-981-5741.
