Police Investigate Fatal Auto-Pedestrian Crash on Oak Grove Road in Walnut Creek

Walnut Creek, CA (DEcember 13, 2024) – A pedestrian was fatally struck by a car early Friday morning in a crash on Oak Grove Road.

The driver of the vehicle called 911 after the collision, which occurred around 6:25 a.m. on Ygnacio Valley Road, just east of Oak Grove Road. 

The driver was traveling west toward the entrances to Interstate 680 and State Highway 24 at the time of the incident.

Authorities have not yet identified the pedestrian, as they are notifying relatives. No arrests were made in connection with the crash.

Ygnacio Valley Road serves as a significant bypass route for commuters in eastern Contra Costa County seeking to avoid traffic on Highway 4 and Highway 242 while heading toward Oakland and San Francisco. 

Police issued a traffic advisory urging drivers to avoid the area during the investigation. The roadway was cleared by 9 a.m.

It is unclear whether stormy weather and wet road conditions contributed to the collision.
